I have family members who are intelligent, productive members of society but shun me for being gay now that they are Mormons. The evangelical, fundamentalist christians that make up the majority of my family believe the Mormons are in a cult, but they all agree on one thing - being gay is the worst possible thing in the world. Hate, disguised as tough love, is the glue that holds the majority of my family together.
