An excellent, in-depth overview of how the Obama administration may approach the war against Al Qaeda and other terrorist elements. Should be read in tandem with yesterday's New York Times story on the Bush administration's secret war. (Find it in Links.)

A superb, nuanced report on how Obama could redefine how the United States conducts war and foreign policy in Afghanistan. Shows a depth of understanding of the political and military situation in the region, as well as a consideration for the debate over how to proceed.

DeYoung takes a mature look at Obama's Afghanistan policy. What's excellent about this reporting is how she includes the Pentagon's position in the story, so It's not merely empty foreign policy states by a campaign. but serious FP consideration. She's candid with presenting both challenges and opportunities for Obama.

Karzai seems not in control, and corrupt. Taliban and militias abound for defense, drug money, and filling the rice bowl. It is a morass. And ... More »

Given the clearly failing current US strategy in Afghanistan, a new approach is only to be expected. The story perhaps should have included the fact Iran has been helping with economic development projects in Afghanistan.

I think there is no military solution to the growing insurgency in Afghanistan, and that Iran, China and India need to cooperate with economic ... More »
