Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, in a campaign appearance Sunday, criticized comments about coal technology that Sen. Barack Obama made to The Chronicle editorial board in January, and suggested that the newspaper withheld the information from the public - even though the interview has been posted on the newspaper's Web site since it was given.

At a rally in Ohio, Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, used the taped remarks to attack Obama's ... Full Story »

This story accurately reports how the McCain campaign completely ignored publicly available information about their opponent. When they discovered their oversight, they tried to blame their incompetence on the media, implying that the information was suppressed. The story makes clear that the interview was not just available but actively promoted by the paper.

The headline on this story should really read, "Palin admits campaign ignored Obama remarks." Since Palin uses the standard right-wing dodge of ... More »

Informative report that debunks false claims by Sarah Palin that the SF Chronicle hid allegedgly disparaging comments by Obama about the coal industry. The article provides solid factual evidence that prove these claims to be false. However, it would have been helpful to provide additional sources and perspectives on this topic, given the conflict of interest in reporting a story that involves your own publication. Good reporting nonetheless.

The Chronicle defends itself by pointing out that both audio and visual recordings of the interview have been on their web site since the interview took place and have been advertised heavily. Pretty easy defense against what appears to be a campaign grasping at straws.

This story is a bit self-serving, in that it seeks to defend the paper from complaints . It provides links to its video and audio of the interview in question, but no transcript. Under related story, see that Jake Tapper has provided a seemingly complete transcript to the section of the speech in question, although I would have found a complete transcript by the Chronicle to be the most helpful.
