Ms. Wellington gives a substantial, neutral overview of the candidates' energy policies. The useful links are vital to follow for a greater understanding of the complexities, as the article is too short to give all the details. Omitted is the significant extension of wind and solar tax credits sneaked into the $700b. Wall St. bailout. Nuclear waste is covered well, and destruction by coal mining is included, but solar and wind also have habitat consequences .

The issues are complex, but Wellington, who has been covering coal minin issues for quite a while, makes them understandable and provides many links to additional source material.

Wellington does her usual thorough job of researching the topic. Using her expertise in strip mining issues and their impact on rural communities, she highlights the proposals of both candidates for this often undercovered population.
