I made 100 phone calls for John McCain

My hands tremble as I dial the first number. A moment passes before I wince from the familiar screech of a disconnected line "ooo wee ooo."

And that's the first trend I discover. Not just that this particular land line is dead, but that land lines in general are dead. In my first half-hour, I make 20 calls and speak to two live people. I think the greater point of this story missed me. It was slow to get started and didn't offer me much new information. Some interesting snips of quotes, but not much more.

The reporter could have written an interesting article about these volunteer calls, but this isn't it. There's no behind the scenes look at how undecided are categorized, or how this information is used. Worth the read if you haven't volunteered to make calls yourself, but not otherwise.

I've done a lot of volunteer calling for Obama, both during the primary and general election. I gained no new insight from reading about the other side.
