One of the most informative editorials I have read of late. It both introduces the reader to Rashid Khalidi and defines why the capacity to entertain, or at least hear, diverse points of view is so important.

During this election I have heard the most outrageous things, both from conservatives and from liberals. One ostensibly thoughtful, left-leaning lady opined that she "didn't even WANT to understand the thinking of anyone who might support John McCain." The clear implication was that to do so might be dangerous. As for the McCain campaign, especially during these past few weeks, it has stooped to lows I have never before seen during a presidential campaign.
