I enjoyed the Fitzgeraldesque introduction but thought the writing went downhill from there. The too clever prose aside, the author effectively makes the point that there are more important aspects of Palin's candidacy to consider than the price of her wardrobe. That said, I believe that the author underestimates the impact of the message that the public receives from trivial, unthinking but seemingly hypocritical acts like Edward's $400 haircut.

Garber seems poetically worshipful of the Palin image. While the article has some validity that clothes and haircuts are peripheral, it ignores other major points, such as that Palin is unsuitable for president because of her ignorance, lack of intellectual curiosity, inexperience, uninformed bellicosity, vendictivity, ignorance of environmental problems, and theocratic religious views. Not really. This asks a question, but doesn't really attempt to answer it.

The obvious answer is that if you are nasty to other people, they do not cut you a lot of slack.
