New York Times - by Serge F. Kovaleski - Oct. 10, 2008 (News Report)
The 2007 state fair was days away when Alaska’s public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, took another call about one of his troopers, Michael Wooten. This time, the director of Gov. Sarah Palin’s Anchorage office was on the line. More »

Notes: The Times provides a factual update on the ongoing investigation of the Palins involvement in the firing of Alaska's public safety commissioner -Monegan. Efforts were made to interview the Palins and their former brother-in-law but interviews with Monegan were conducted. New information is provided that the number of times the Palins contacted state officials to fire her former brother-in-law exceeded what was previously known. The investigation from the Legislature is scheduled ... More »

Notes: It does exactly what journalism is supposed to do. It sorts out the facts and puts them in a proper order so that the story can be comprehended efficiently and accurately. As to what significance the story itself holds, I have my doubts. Wooten is no hero, but his harassment by the governor's family seems like an unethical activity. I wouldn't care at all if Scott Palin was not up for second gentleman.

Notes: This opinion piece has modest journalistic value. The writers are part of the Democratic party group of more than 300 operatives sent to Alaska to seek out critics of Gov Palin. The Times has repeatedly run pieces like this with no serious content in their promotion of the Democrats. Could have just as well appeared in US Weekly.

Notes: Factual, direct and in service to no party or point of view. It's unfortunate, but reality does seem to have a liberal bias - at least, as "liberal" is currently defined on the right.
