Background: the First Brigade of the Third Infantry Division, three to four thousand soldiers, has been deployed in the United States as of October 1. I admit, I may be biased in that I am afraid of what the people behind the Bush administration are capable of, and afraid that John McCain and Palin are no better. The fear that has been deliberately generated by them affects not only progressives, but reactionaries as well, and we can see how the crowds at McCain rallies are behaving. There is no way to refute what Naomi Wolf has to say, and she says it in no uncertain terms. This is a statement that goes beyond journalism into historical literature. If the coup that she speaks of does not materialize, she will be mocked, but if it does, she will be a national hero.
