McCain Health Plan Has Underlying Illness

Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) has promised to revolutionize the U.S. health care industry if elected president by ending the current employer-based tax subsidy and offering the subsidy instead to individuals. His plan would cost about $1.3 trillion over 10 years, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

Fout does some investigation and extracts evaluations of the fuzzy republican health insurance plan espoused by McCain. Krugman has a more succinct evaluation, but Fout has a few unique points here too.

This story offers McCain's claims and rebuttals by reliable sources. It says what almost all of the sources I read are saying and what I, a physician, say after reading his plan, which is that McCain's plan has serious flaws and would not improve the availability of health care in the U.S.

This is an interesting story about the McCain Health Plan that puts it context of real world of costs and benefits. The fact that an independent group without a particular point of view indicates the McCain plan will cost $1.3 Trillion dollars over ten years certainly puts doubt about his plan and that the plan does not prevent private insurers from eliminating pre-existing conditions certainly makes those who are ageing or already have pre-exising conditions much interested in ... According to this article, under McCain's plan your Medical plan will be taxed as income, thereby raising taxes on families.
