Health Care Destruction

Conservative Republicans still hate Medicare, and would kill it if they could — in fact, they tried to gut it during the Clinton years (that’s what the 1995 shutdown of the government was all about). But so far they haven’t been able to pull that off. Full Story »

Paul Krugman's political leanings are clear, but that doesn't stop him from writing well-reasoned, informative pieces about health care, his forte. Here he looks at the likely outcome of McCain's health care plan. Most of his criticisms come late in the op-ed, after he explains McCain and Obama's proposals in plain terms. Good kicker, tying the McCain plan to the credit crisis.

Krugman offers a brief, but cogent comparison of Obama and McCain's health care reform plans. I found pretty fair, though independent experts are not cited.

Mr. Krugman offers a thoughtful, albeit truncated, analysis of McCain's healthcare plan, along with a cogent, scathing critique of it. Agree or disagree with him, Mr. Krugman helps make McCain's plan and its consequences more understandable.
