The question is: Can Palin give a coherent answer?

It remains possible that the CBS interview will be known as the moment when the high gloss that Mrs Palin wore upon her selection before the Republican convention - burnished by her performance in St Paul - began to fade. Full Story »

Interesting commentary from the U.K. about Sarah Palin's TV interview with CBS's Katie Couric. This analysis provides good insights about the challenges faced by the VP candidate. Fair, informative, could use a few more sources for more perspective.

A British view of the Palin/Couric interview that is much the same as many in the US press: is Palin really as poorly prepared for Vice President as she appears? The article alludes to the value of greater press scrutiny of Palin to either disabuse us of the impression that she's a light weight or to confirm it. This is similar to the call in Bob Herbert's column in the New York Times.

A story from England about Sarah Palin's interview with Katie Couric. Wow! They agree this interview did not go well.

In 2006, when the wireless and mobile technology boom was in full blossom, I did an interview with The Futurist in which I prophesied that we would look back on the Bush administration with nostalgia--the good old days when we could admire or admonish presidents on policy, vetoes, and executive decisions. My point was, that truth and fact would cease to matter much in a marketing culture thanks to datamining and GPS and the seamless ego-based messages programmed into the commercial ... More »

Palin's pathetic performance in the Katie Couric interview does raise even more questions about whether she even begins to be qualified for the job she seeks. Most candidates for student body president at a good high school would do better, as the writer observes.

The clips I've seen and heard have been pathetic. Perhaps they were the worst. I certainly hope so. If not, The Independent has been extraordinarily generous. In another, shorter article in this section, Leonard Doyle--who has been covering U.S. politics for the British press for many years--called it "painful to watch." Doyle is usually quite supportive of the GOP. So that's saying something.

This quote sums it up, "Even as members of the American media strive to avoid appearing snobbish or elitist in their treatment of Mrs Palin, most commentators seemed unable to disguise their sheer consternation at a performance that at times seemed worthy less of a candidate for vice-president than for school president." It is terrifying to think that the least qualified VP candidate in modern history might be elected with the oldest President and the current state of our nation and the world.

It is hard not to pick on Sarah Palin when she gives the kinds of answers to serious questions that beauty pageant contestants give when asked how they would save the world. She sounds unprepared because she is unprepared. No one needs to exaggerate or excessively elaborate on what she says. We examine these things as voters because Palin's selection is a choice by McCain and we need to examine his acumen in such matters. If elected, who would he want for various cabinet positions and so forth.

This opinion piece has minimal journalistic value. The author is promoting the Obama talking points. No mention is made of Gov. Palin's opponent, Sen. Biden, whose continual mistakes, gaffes and contradictions of Sen Obama's positions are far worse than anything reported here. Many doubt that Biden, who among other things thinks FDR was President in 1929, is fit to be VP. Andrew Sullivan is well known for his consuming hatred of all Republicans, so why did this writer choose to quote ... More »
