Good multimedia piece on the changes to Arizona immigration law under the new SB 1070, as well as a profile of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the willing "poster-boy" of immigration enforcement. The video interview is well-edited and interesting, setting up an interesting conflict between the sheriff and the county attorney, whose cooperation the sheriff needs to prosecute his cases. It also reveals some of the preparations Sheriff Arpaio plans to make to accommodate what he believes will be a large increase in arrests after the implementation of SB 1070. Well-researched, with good context about this important issue.

This is fair journalism, not great. Any journalist who gives Joe Arpaio credibility is walking on shaky ground. Arpaio is a racist sheriff who would be a good understudy for Carroll O'Connor in the HEAT OF THE NIGHT movies. He is sub-human in the way he and his henchmen who call themselves deputies treat inmates at the maze of jails the Maricopa County Sheriff's office runs. Third World Nations are more humane in the way they treat and feed prisoners than Arpaio, who has become a vindictive man of paranoia in his old age. He has managed to fool the Sun City crowd of retirees that keep re-electing him because they think Joe keeps them safe. Far from it. Arizona and Phoenix used to be a marvelous place to visit until Arpaio came ... More »
