The story deals with reaction to the US accusations, but does not deal with questions of the truth of the US accusations. US accusations against Iraq are now clearly known to be contrived lies. Ignoring that possibility ignores history.

The article deals with the challenge Iran as a nuclear power would mean to the region as a whole. The Arab states could favour some alliance which includes Israel, a surprising new scenario. Michael Slackman sees Iran as a major threat and does not seem to expect successful negotiations that would result in some security treaty with Iran.
