Cindy McCain's half sister emerges to put down 'only child' claim

Now a half-sister has emerged from the shadows to challenge that family history, claiming she and her offspring have been carefully airbrushed out of the would-be First Lady's family picture. "I'm upset," Kathleen Hensley Portalski said. "I'm angry. It makes me feel like a non-person."

Documents show that she was born to Jim and Mary Jeanne Hensley on 23 February 1943. The still-married Mr Hensley was sent to West Virginia to recuperate from war ... Full Story »

This is real journalism. Why does American media not have this story? This story is from Great Britain and the only other story of this subject I have seen is on NPR.

Where are the reporters on the Cindy McCain beat? You can't convince me that Michelle Obama is a bigger story than Cindy McCain.

In some ways, I think I shouldn't legitimize this sort of "journalism" by reviewing it; I recognize, however, that some people think it is important and I've certainly seen a plethora of negative reporting on Michelle Obama, so I'll comment on this report. I have no love whatsover for Cindy McCain, but her description of "growing up as an only child" seems correct and consistent with what her perspective would be. Her half-sister did not live with them and when Cindy was born she was the only child in the house. The fact that she inherited her father's entire fortune tells us something about her father's attitude toward his first family. This article is trivia and serves only to distract. In fact, I'm suspicious enough to think ... More »

I've seen a few shorter articles about this, but this is the most complete. Doyle has done his homework and traced the documents, which also makes his account more credible than a few others I'm read. I don't know why all the McCains keep saying things that are demonstrably untrue. But, to me, it explains why they keep accusing everybody else of lies. Clearly they can't tell the difference and don't think we can either.

If true this is a sad commentary on the father of the two sisters. That he would teach the half sister to be so selfish as to abandon her to the 10k the father left her speaks volumes. I will reserve judgment until further info is forthcoming. It sounds so typical of the selfishness of the haves and their less fortunate relatives.

Mr. Doyle has succinctly summarized recent events that have unearthed the fact that Cindy McCain, who recently claimed in a television interview she was an only child, in fact has a half-sister, Kathleen, who has also made public statements to angrily confirm Cindy is a liar and has made her "feel like a non-person." To deny the existence of a family member is an important lie and certainly newsworthy, considering she is married to the Republican nominee for President of the United States.

While not of immense importance, one does ask why Cindy McCain would say she is an only child when she has a sister by the half blood living in the same town. Of course, Cindy has houses all over the place so maybe the two of them do not run into each very often.
