When rain sweeps the small, volcanic island, which lies just beneath the Arctic Circle, the water assaults you from all directions. Icelanders equip themselves with hoods and waterproof clothing, shunning the accessories that keep people dry in tamer climates. But when it comes to the media, the concept of an umbrella is becoming increasingly ... Full Story »

I feel like I heard this news a while ago, and I'm not sure what recent development merited running it as news again. That said, this report on Iceland's new positioning as a haven for freedom of speech is very well researched and in-depth.

A very interesting development in the wide world of journalism. The article looks fairly at the gains and pitfalls for Iceland and the journalistic world if the IMMI (Icelandic Modern Media Initiative) is to form. I'd still like to hear more from people who oppose this and/or think it's a bad idea in order to provide balance to all those in favor of it; this could definitely make Iceland a hotbed of investigative journalism and all its consequences.

Exceptional journalism about exceptional journalism. In-depth look at the increasingly vexing issue of reporter liability, and analysis of why Iceland may be the best haven for those seeking respite from legal and retaliatory prosecution.
