compared to another short report on newstrust, this offers more information and a different perspective. the article reports that only 15 % of students will be from s.a. and the faculty includes many from western countries.not mentioned here is how similar this sounds to u.s. enclaves based in s.a. and that this enterprise offering scientific freedom may not mean any real change in women's freedom for this culture. it will be interesting to see how many saudi women apply and enroll.

Good factual account of the opening of a new Saudi University. It also addresses the possible internal controversy this represents because of the academic and cultural freedom planned for it. There are many powerful people in the kingdom who probably are very opposed to the amount of cultural freedom discussed for the KAUST enclave. This has the potential to be a huge cultural turning point for the kingdom and bears watching going forward.
