While I know there are many Christians of all colors who don't believe in abortion, there are many of all creeds who do. The same applies to gay marriage. It seems the author has singled out the ones who agree with the publication's own views and made an issue out of the fact that not all blacks support Obama. Not all whites support McCain. I don't. And I don't see why this is even a story. Nobody expected social conservatives of any color to support a Democrat. Duh!

In this simplistic article, Julia Duin quotes a few black anti-abortion preachers and concludes that Obama's politics are doubtful. Duin shows disrespect for African-Americans because she suggests they will vote according to race, apparently unwilling or unable to consider a myriad of other issues. This is advocacy journalism that begins with the premise that anti-abortion views are a prerequisite to campaign for political office.

This is the first piece I've read in months that explores black voters for the 2008 elections in way other than simply assuming they will and should vote for Obama. However, It's not a great article. My biggest concern was that these 'dissenting' black minsters aren't contextualized - how many of them are there really?
