McCain: Noun, Verb, Terrorism

McCain continues to embody Bush's worst impulses on terrorism, not least his stubborn refusal to grasp even the most basic facts about terrorist organizations. So let's ask: What would al-Qaeda like America to do in the next few years? What would serve its goals? A few things are obvious. It would like us to stay in Iraq, both because it offers its members a place to practice planning and carrying out terrorist acts, and because it sustains anti-American ... Full Story »

Opinions are a dime a dozen. Everybody has one. It's a different thing altogether to be able to support yours convincingly as Waldman has done here.

A well-thought out piece that demonstrates just how poorly thought-out the McBush position on terrorism is. McCain is just another Know-Nothing who graduated in the bottom 1% of his Annapolis, and as Waldman points out, is unable to learn from Bush's mistakes. The statistics on numbers of terrorist victims should be sufficient to persuade most people, but of course the average "low-information" voter might well be persuaded by the Republican fear and smear campaign.

A must-read article for everyone who buys into the neocon terrorist scare tactics. (Those bogeymen would get you if it weren't for us.) The real contributions of Bush, Cheney and McCain is they turned Al-Quaeda from a bunch of renegades into a major organization with sophisticated techniques. Of course no ultra conservative ever learns anything from Bushie blunders. Fools never learn from their mistakes. But then neocons see terrorism only as a weapon to frighten Americans.

While I see nothing wrong with the facts and opinions presented here, in fact, I agree entirely, the style shouts out BIAS in virtually every sentence. This article preaches to the choir. I'm in that choir, so I agree entirely. I doubt whether anyone not in the choir would read past the first paragraph.

Those seeking a tight summary of the utter idiocy of Bush administration policy toward Islamic militancy, and the total endorsement of such stupidity by John McCain, should read this article. I agree with the author that McCain is a fool if he actually believes that al-Qaeda poses a mortal threat to the US. The problem of Islamic radicalism has been exacerbated by the relentless squandering of blood and treasure in Iraq in an effort to refashion it into a docile client state of ... More »

I started this review and lost what I had written, somehow, so here goes again. I respect this magazine and the people responsible for it. I'm sure the stories they publish are truthful and fair. Can't say that for most mainline news magazines. Time, Newsweek, US News and World, etc. The latter has always been more right wing than the others, but not much difference in any of them today, not to mention most mainline newspapers, including the Times and Post, etc., are the same. I ... More »

This opinion piece has minimal journalistic value. The author appears not to have read a newspaper in a year or more. Even left-wing media such as the Washington Post and the BBC have reported on the great progress that has been made in Iraq and how Al Qaeda has been defeated, having lost the support of the people of the Arab countries. The author does not know about the shipoment orf Saddam's nuclear materials that was just completed. Etc.
