McCain Makes Stuff Up

in the months ahead, there's urgency for American voters to figure out whether John McCain is the maverick "straight-shooter" of his usual press clippings or a sanctimonious phony who's just masquerading as the guy who tells it like it is.

Is John McCain like George W. Bush, someone who has learned that the mainstream news media - ever sensitive to accusations of "liberal bias" - is hesitant to call a prominent Republican politician a liar, ... Full Story »

Excellent well sourced article on some of the contradictions that McCain has been caught at and the lack of media investigation and coverage of his deceptive statements and behavior. Important topic with the country in turmoil with a President who is a documented liar and now there is another candidate who seems to have a problem with the truth. The article asks the question if the media is not reporting and investigating the lies because they are afraid of the label ' liberal bias' which allowes McCain to say whatever he wants.

It's about time that McCain is called on these convenient lies. This writer is certainly not buy into the MSM aura of McCain myth. Article is written as bare facts. That is enough.

A self-described "straight talker" who obviously is prone to fudging the facts whenever this course suits his purposes, probably deserves extra scrutiny rather than less. Thus I very much agree with the author's point of view. We don't need another war thanks to a tendency to dispense with inconvenient truths.

To somebody who followed the Keating Five scandal and the Iseman case, the fact that McCain is corrupt is nothing new. Parry always does his homework, but PolitiFact.com does a more comprehensive, succinct job of reporting on McCain's latest falsehoods.

I saw the clip of the McCain speech yesterday. And I think Parry is wrong about that. McCain likes off the cuff. Certainly it's a better style for him than set speeches. But he makes mistakes when he does it. I got the impression he said "Constitution" instead of "guns" because it fit in with what he wanted to say next. Certainly the Sunni Shia gaffe was just that, a mistake. That's obvious from the tape. However the Keating and Paxon affairs are not. Parry is spot on there. McCain lied. And Parry proves it pretty convincingly.

Parry gathers evidence from a number of mccain departures from veracity, and the pattern of big corporate media not calling him on it. It appears that mccain has either bush's behavioral pattern of pathological lying, or reagan's pathological pattern of Alzheimer's, but Alzheimer's does not so consistently provide self-serving memory losses.

Enlightening article with numerous examples of McCain saying one thing at one time and latter saying something different. Additionally the story goes on to show that the media rarely (or never) makes an issue out of these flip/flops/contradictions.

This is a "fact check" type article, which lists lots of documented, conflicting information and points out damaging, false statements about Senator Obama by Senator McCain.

Along with several other articles about McCain, for the last 6 months or so, this paints a more accuret picture of the man who has turned his back on every principle his projected image says he stands for. Great job.

This opinion piece has minimal journalistic merit. The author makes many irrational claims. The media ARE biased to the left; every study has shown that: Chicago; Pew; UCLA-Missouri, .... The piece is a typical attack from the Obama side, ignoring all the issues and bringing up claims that have been thoroughly rebutted by the mainstream media.

Trying to think like a McCain supporter I am challenged to find any fault with this article. Way back when he made his first bid for nomination by the Republican party I believed in the man and wasn’t put off by an article in a well known magazine that detailed the warts and all of McCain’s personality. This article seems to advance the idea that McCain is guilty of all kinds of shenanigans. Then it presents a modicum of objectivity by asking whether McCain is a bad guy or a good guy. That’s the only way I could grade it as high as I did on fairness. The author leaves it up to the reader to make the judgment.

It's about time that someone calls a spade a spade. Most articles report "gaffes" whenever McCain says something that isn't true, but this one points out that this is McCain's style.

What spinning junk, suitable for echo chamber denunciations based on Gotcha restatements. McCain says Obama said "Constitution" when Obama said "guns"; which Parry calls a lie despite noting that McCain supports Constitutional 2nd Amendment rights. This individual right is one that every gun control nanny statist wants to take away, but gun nuts do cling to the 2nd Amendment. Of the Constitution. Later McCain's campaign says no lobbyist asked McCain to send a Paxton support letter to the FCC, but Parry says this is a lie because McCain did meet with Paxton. It's obvious both statements can be true -- but Parry never considers this in his rush to claim McCain is a liar.

Well written and researched article. It clearly shows how the rabid right can be relied upon to careen between less-than-subtle racist and fear-mongering subtexts, and outright stupidity when given the slightest excuse. Michelle's remark was right on target and not unpatriotic: You love your children (country) but are not always proud of what they do. And she is, gasp, black and an uppity one at that. The shock, the horror. ! Who can possibly be proud of the "America" as played by Bush and Co. over the past eight years?

Informative and timely. More a story about the news media than the candidate, and as such would like to have seen a bit more substance behind the editorial assertion that the media fears Republican attacks.
