Laura Ingraham: Right-Wing High Priestess of Hate

Laura Ingraham is ... different. Not only is Ingraham younger than many other conservative radio personalities (at 45, she's more than a decade from Limbaugh's cohort), and the only female among them, but she also brings to the airwaves a snarky brand of aggressive humor fused with an attack-dog sensibility that she expresses with a chalk-on-gravel voice. Her goal is not to assert her own glory, but to rip apart her enemies, which include everyone from ... Full Story »

While informative this article describes a non-journalist. People like this gives electronic media a bad name. This is entertainment without ethics or morals masquerading as news. It is part of the reason that participation in elections has declined.

Not much here that's new for a well-read liberal audience, but hopefully the book title will help it sell to those who will learn from it. Well-written, but not concise. As a book excerpt it's not organized in the same way as an opinion piece or special report. I got an impression of rambling, probably because the single theme was illustrated in different ways: Ingraham is a clever talker and effective conservative propagandist. Oddly, O'Connor doesn't compare her to Coulter.

Anyone who talks for 3 hours per day is going to make blunders. This article lists some sharp anecdotes, but that's all. Doesn't really make a case.

I've been curious about Laura Ingraham since meeting her in 1995. Obviously bright and rapaciously mean-spirited, one wonders what motivates her beyond the gravy-train of provocative conservatism. There is some sense of that in this excerpt, but would have liked to hear more.

This opinion piece has modest journalistic merit. It does include some factual information about the subject, but is permeated with the author's ideological views, rather than letting the subject speak for herself. The author is ignorant on the abortion issue, or he would know that more women are pro-life than men, and that it would therefore be logical for Ingraham to be pro-life.
