laying out the facts regarding sen. mccain's claims as is done here, and with fact check's own corrections, shows not only how complex the financial issues truly are, but how important it is to know them. if only the mainstream media would challenge candidates' statements in the same way, and publicly show the results of the facts.
ALL TAX CUTS SHOULD BE VETTED IN THIS WAY. Sheesh. Well written, with just a dollop of snark to warm the cockles of my cynical heart.
Good point by point rundown on how McC is promising the impossible re his so-called tax policy. Easier to follow than Part I, but that's also worth a read. Only thing missing is discussion of how McC's promise to stay in Iraq (the one promise he might keep if elected) undercuts any effort to restore fiscal sanity. BTW, FactCheck is truly nonpartisan of truth--critiques the DNC and Obama as well. Check it out.
A good fact check article. Keeps the complicated tax policy issues quite simple and provides good references for those who may want more detail. Very fair and balanced by comparing the candidates positions. That fairness however is to McCain's detriment as his tax proposals are shown to be impractical. The all too frequent errors that McCain makes was higlighted here in his April 15th speech and tagged as a "verbal typo" Who says economic reporters have no sense of humor?
This story is full of garbage. It is taken only from the liberal vierwpoint. There is plenty of evidence that tax rate cuts increase revenues, not just in the short term but over the long haul. Why? Well, there might be a small pent up demand to sell that occurs when capital gains rates are cut. But the big big issue is that the economy does better, much better.
