This is the history of the Internet with most of the early participants going on record. The piece sounds authentic to me and well balanced. It has little to do with the current political scene except the part about the government being responsible, thanks to ARPA, for creating the Internet.

Good (if short) history of How It All Happened. Looks very reliable and has already cleared up a couple of misconceptions for me.
