McCain's lobbyist problem spotlights unpopular crowd

With strict new ethics rules and a clearout of top aides, Republican John McCain is battling to avoid being tainted by Democrats as a Washington insider in thrall to big business.

The article presents both sides of the story but tends to credit the McCain campaign's assertions that he has a track record of taking on vested interests. In reality, he takes on others' vested interests, not the lobbyists/special interests who support him. Same with the assertion that McCain takes on lobbyist-tainted money. This is partially true, judging by McCain-Feingold, but Public Citizen has found that McCain had more than 60 lobbyists (now down to about 54) collecting ... More »

Decently well written article. Takes McCain to task for projecting a maverick image while at the same time being totally Washington in everything he does. Would have liked to have seen more of the back story for McCain's anti-lobbying positions and legislation to better show what a hypocrite he is being in this.
