A thrilling but flawed campaign nears its end

The democratic process is not something that can, or should, be set in stone. To adjust the rules while a campaign is in progress, however, is to invite trouble. George Bush's own election showed how a combination of poor systems, ruthless ambition, sharp lawyers and a sympathetic court could subvert US democracy. It is not something that bears repetition, even when it is the nomination, rather than the presidency itself, that is at stake. Full Story »

One of the best opinion pieces I've read on the Democratic nominating process--and I've read a lot! This is fair and reasoned, pointing out valid problems where they exist all around.

A resonably good story that fails to report the problems including length of the campaign, costs of the campaign and many other problems. The last paragraph is baffling. Is the author speaking about the Florida and Michigan primaries or the process problems. If the last paragraph is about the Florida and Michigan primaries, the article is wrong.

Mr. Obama wisely avoided Water- gate, cattle futures, stolen furniture from the White House, Vince Foster (not a suicide), and the current Peter Paul suite here in California concerning Mrs. Clinton's campaign fraud in her first senate race. Mr. McCain would not have been so kind.
