Media complicit in making Wright look bad

Barack Obama's forceful denunciation and disavowal of his former pastor doesn't change the fact that it is an irrelevant distraction entirely created by cable television pundits using out-of-context and skewed sound bites. Full Story »

This is a pointed take on the Rev. Jeremiah Wright debacle that for some reason has consumed mainstream media for weeks now. Keith Bunting is spot-on, stylish and at the same time dispassionate. Regardless of your feelings about Rev. Wright's comments—and Barack Obama's subsequent condemnation of them—read this op-ed. I think it helps tone down what has been some very flamboyant coverage of the issue.

Outstanding discussion of how the desire for shock value, sensationalism and sales appeal overcomes investigation, balance and the duties of the fourth estate.

A well presented opinion. He echoes my wondering why the Bill Moyers interview was neglected elsewhere in the corporate media.

The non story about Wright has been blown totally out of proportion by the media. It is nice to see that someone else has noticed. The real stories are the dishonesty of the media and the difference of views of Black Americans and what appears to be the views of a large number of Caucazoidal Americans, or maybe they are the bitter prejudiced Americans who do not realize that there is major discrimination in this country.

It lays bare the BAD journalism that is the rule nowadays. Alas, we just have to live with the fact that the mainstream media is skewed to the right, and every democrat is going to have to deal with these unfair distractions. The key is to counterattack swiftly and strongly, unmasking their tactics.

It's not really Reverend Wright the corporate media are trying to "make look bad", it's Obama, of course. Guilt by association was perfected by the WashPost, and TV bloviators like MSNBC's Chris Matthews back in the 90's with their attacks on the Clintons. Now their using the same propaganda tactics to undermine Barack - - and Hillary hasn't helped. McCain may be a hapless opportunist, but he is at least not taking advantage of this sneaky Wright charade. And speaking of MSNBC, check ... More »

This opinion piece has little journalistic merit. The author ignores the fact that Sen. Obama has no executive experience and has no legislative accomplishments. The only thing that voters can judge him on is the people with whom he associates and how he handles them. Thus his toleration of the hate and bigotry preached by Rev. WSright for 20 years is one of the few things available on which to evaluate Obama as a Presidential candidate. Because the author misses the whole point, the ... More »
