Very basic, very general overview of the lay-off situation. Rather than being the fault of the reporter (sloppy writing) it could, perhaps be more of an issue with an editor, who may have chopped the story down to its perceived essential elements. The sound-byte quality of the story makes it feel like a great deal of information has been left out of the story.

This wire story, reprinted by RawStory shares the results of a report by an employment consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. There is no information on the firm to explain why its report is cited, nor information from other reports. I suspect this might be a rewrite of a pr release. It does add one more piece to the picture, if the reader is looking at other items.
