This is an incredibly difficult area to report on and Gettlemen's work in recent years has been some of the best by any Western reporter. This story offers many details but leaves other things very vague. Its lack of context raises additional questions. For instance, Gettleman says the Somali government has given the US permission to launch strikes on its soil and cites "Somali intelligence" as a source. I have no reason to doubt this rarther complete and detailed report. It cerainly seems to reach out to confirm its contentions, so I will accept it at face value. That is something that is not necessarily a foregone conclusion, given the fact that the MSM has so often such a dubious way with the truth these days.
