Tide turns against public option on eve of President Obama's address

Political momentum appeared to swing sharply against the public health insurance option prized by liberals Tuesday, on the eve of President Barack Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress.

Democratic leaders in the House and Senate on Tuesday signaled they are increasingly willing to pass healthcare reform without a public insurance option, even while Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) again insisted it must be included in a House healthcare bill. Full Story »

Sameo political statements and weasel words, but current words. The title seems misleading in an attempt to sucker in readers.

Maybe we should make and end run and go for single payer.

The article is very anecdotal, quoting just a few Congressional leaders rather than assessing likely vote totals in Congress. Short shrift is given to those supporting a public option. The article also doesn't discuss reconciliation in the Senate, which increases the chances of passing a bill with the public option.
