Insightful perspective on prospects for Obama's health care plan, from the New Republic's health care blogger, a self-described liberal. The author provides a factual, fair and well-reasoned analysis, focusing on whether or not the final proposal will match liberal objectives. It was helpful for me to learn more about the pivotal role played in this debate by Olympia Snowe, Maine’s third Republican Senator on the Finance Committee.

This is certainly one of the fairest assessments I've yet read on the health care debate. Unusually, for me, I wish it were longer and included more background. I would like to see more on just why the people with the power are just that, the people with the power. They represent some of the least populous states, and therefore a tiny fraction of the country, yet wield inordinate control over the outcome of one of our nation's most important policy decisions. While based on "opinion" it grounds itself on interaction with likely central players or those quite familiar with them I believe. It resolates with what I know, for example about Sen. Grassley, and have heard from a number of sources about Sen. Snowe.
