This is an interesting and important story, but the Times doesn't do a great job of making it compelling read. Perhaps a visualization, or 'angle' on the story would have helped.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower once warned about money from the "military-industrial" complex. Though this article doesn't make the connection, other media coverage has noted that health insurance donations make a difference in congressional votes. Since this is virtually our only viable export industry, and we are clearly by this report the industry leader, it makes sense that we continue to perpetuate war around the globe.

Important information, but Shanker could have taken it further.

The story just gives us facts about the arms sales, but doesn't touch the implcations to both the US and the world. However, one needs the facts if one is to discuss the implications, coasts, and policies to which these facts lead.

The article was well sourced as it gives a number of sources. It draws no conclusions as it is just a statement of facts.
