The article makes the point that because of imporoved technology, people are able to respond rapidly to smear tactics that are being sandwiched in with facts through the AP of all places. In the past people did not know how or to whom they should express their outrage and call the mainstream press into account for spreading obvious unwarranted made-up concerns spread by hate groups. The story tells a good story of new media being used by concerned citizens to counter horrible partisan journalism from big corporate media that employs right wing hacks. Encouraging.

This opinion piece does have one genuine news item. It describes the spam tactics that are being used on the far left to inundate news media on a topic. The approach is not new (there are many exammples of identical letters showing up in multiple newspapers supposedly from different people), but the technology is improved. Otherwise the piece is lacking in research and in balance.
