This article cites a "not in my back yard" issue concerning uranium mining in rural Colorado. The issue is complicated by difference between ownership of land and mineral rights in much of the West as well as the scare factor associated with anything nuclear. The article does not address any of the technical issues such as contamination from naturally occurring uranium or contamination and disruption associated with mining.
