Enjoyed the story, as I feel the same way about Fox News. Not quite sure what the other side of the story might be.
The story documents the downturn of Faux Noose in a relatively detailed and entertaining critique of what Faux has paraded as journalism. A must-read for those who would like Americans to be able to trust their news again. The fact that the other channels had migrated toward the right-wing viewpoint of Fox is not mentioned, nor if their views and staffing is returning to balance. The oligopoly in media controlled by large corporations suggests one should not let down their guard. ... More »
If the stories and examples are truly representative of the overall media business then Fox will need to alter its coverage or "image" to keep a share of the news pie. What would be helpful here is an examination of issue biases, rather than party and candidate affiliation. The meager coverage of substantive issues facing the nation makes candidate personalities the main focus, so the electorate has little relevant information for decisions, regardless of what network they watch.
While Eric Bohlert's article hits hard, and deservedly, at the recent, self inflicted misfortunes of Fox News, his report fails to remind us of just who the bosses are at Fox News and whence they originated back in the 90's when FN first began to appear on TV. May this be a harbinger of things to come for Faux Noise and the neo-fascists. I'd LOVE to see these headlines, in REAL media (something else I'd like back) sometime in the next few years: FOX BUSINESS CHANNEL SHUTDOWN DUE TO NON-EXISTENT RATINGS FOX NEWS CHANNEL FOLDS DUE TO LAWSUITS AND POOR RATINGS ROGER AILES AND RUPERT MURDOCK FOUND DEAD IN APPARENT GAY MURDER-SUICIDE PACT Of course, that last one isn't likely to happen - but a progressive ethical journalist can ... This opinion piece has little journalistic merit. Fox News is considered by media researchers to be the most evenly balanced of the commercial networks; its Sunday morning show is by far the best balanced between the parties and between left and right. One could wonder why the author has such hatred for Fox News but that does not make this journalism.
