Joe Scarborough Is Shocked, Yet Awed by Single-Payer Logic

Something rather remarkable happened on Tuesday's Morning Joe. Rep. Anthony Weiner of New York pointed out that the health insurance industry has no clothes, and Joe Scarborough, after first trying to spin it some gossamer threads, broke down and said, By God, you're right, this emperor is a naked money-making machine Full Story »

This is a dumbfounding story. To think that Scarborough recognizes truth is News!

Opinion, rather than news. A link to a clip of the show would have been nice to demonstrate Savan's take on what happened. And Weiner isn't the only person who's been saying any of this. Nice that he said it in a way that Joe and Mika got it. But hardly unique. Michael Moore, for example, said almost exactly the same thing several years ago in Sicko.

This is good journalism. The piece tells the story of an interview in which the case was made, with compelling logic, for single-payer healthcare. My only complaint with the piece is that I don't know what "dobbering" is. Neither my dictionary Widget nor Merriam-Webster knew what it was, either.

Single-payer makes sense to me, but until I saw this piece I never felt that comfortable defending it. Now I do. Hee!

This is great, perhaps President Obama needs a new spokesperson on health insurance reform. Rep. Anthony Weiner understands how to frame the debate.

The presentation is novel: The reporter as TV viewer, commenting on a program, Morning Joe, that the reporter routinely watches. This approach fits well with the American palate when it comes to digesting news. In this context the premise of a single payer system for health care comes off as a simple and logical program. While this is not completely factual, it is credible and worthy of discussion. People who read Truthout and The Nation are part of the Choir regarding the single ... More »

It would be interesting to see how this opinion piece favoring socialism over capitalism would play with the American public at large. I am left wondering how Obama is going to cover such a large portion of the estimated trillion dollar extra cost of expanded health care out of the Medicare program that this article portrays as the ultimate example of efficiency: “only 4% overhead” see: Obama Identifies $313 Billion for Health Care Through Medicaid and Medicare Savings (june 13 ABC news)

Regardless of how ingenious, a propaganda piece is still propaganda and not good journalism.

I'd say that it's high quality journalism. There is a bias, judging from the clever commentary & words such as "Dobbering" that imply that Dobbs is a blubbering fool but it is a bias that I can find no fault with since truth leans in this direction and away from the silliness of right wing flim-flammery. It's a simple story. Not all of Fox's employees have their heads so far up their posteriors that they are totally immune from learning from a good teacher/expert.

There isn't much honesty on the right, since most people that call themselves "conservative" (they have no conception of the true principles of ... More »
