This is an interesting article on what "terrorists" might tend to be. The article is more scholarly than what one usually sees in the main stream media. One strong point is the writer's quiet demolition of the Left's romanticisation that terrorists are freedom fighters from the poorest of the poor. Rather, many of the "terrorists" belong to the better-off and more educated classes. On the other hand, the author apparently suffers from the Right's blindness, and does not address the fact that "terrorists" are often militants who are less powerful (and usually poorer), and are defined as "terrorists" by the powerful (and usually wealthier) elite.

A good story but I feel the author missed the big picture. Although true that extremists are motivated by geopolitical situations, I believe that if you look at how the GDP is generated (companies that are local grown vs companies that come in from foreign lands), you would find that terrorist are more prevalent in the latter.
