So Who's Afraid of the Israel Lobby?

Nowhere is the Lobby's power more clearly demonstrated than in its ability to suppress the awful truth that on June 8, 1967 during the Six Day War:

--Israel deliberately attacked the intelligence collection ship USS Liberty, in full awareness it was a U.S. Navy ship, and did its best to sink it and leave no survivors; Full Story »

The apparent strong control by the right wing Israeli government over US information and actions is a clear and present danger to rational US policy. McGovern supports the exposure of the coverup of the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty. The story is electrifying.

Could have more opposing sources, though comparable stories I've read have listed people and organizations that had refused comment. It is, of course, a matter of great import, and essential for improving understanding of the situation in the Middle East.

Up to now, debate on the power of the Israel Lobby, and open debate on Israeli policy have been two related taboos untouchable in American public life. People's careers have been destroyed for bringing up these issues, and prominent speakers, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu and President Carter, have been denied venues to speak or have been saddled with ridiculous conditions. The publication of Walt and Mearshimer's article in the London Review of Books (originally written for the ... More »

Definitely interesting and informative but I do not trust the source. It is written by Ray McGovern who works for Tell the Word, the publishing arm of the ecumenical Church of the Saviour. One of the goals of the Church of the Saviour is to convert all Jews to Christianity because they believe if they succeed in doing so, Christ will return. So although some of what Ray McGovern says in this article may be true, read it with caution.

Exposing a cover-up is ALWAYS good journalism. The purpose of our Fourth Estate is to say the truth. Better late than never.

It is a sad state that writing an artilcle about a welll documented (but rarely reported) event is considered an act of courage. Kudos to Ray McGovern for keeping this story and the underlying issues it raises alive.

Either this story is mistitled or the author forgot what he had set up to write about in the first place. Of all the multiples of facts to demonstrate the deep influence of the Israeli lobby on US foreign policy issues, he has chosen the USS Liberty bombing and the coverup, which have very little to do with AIPAC. Some sources inform us that the sinking of the USS Liberty was a joint US/Israel scheme to blame it on Egypt and to give the US military a legitimate reason to become fully ... More »

This article makes clear the failure of US journalism to address the real rather than the play-it-safe brand of news. Some people would like to really know what goes on in the world that might effect their lives, rather than be lulled by reporters who are primarily interested in payng their mortgages.
