The author's view that "Congress handed George W. Bush another blank check on executive power, letting him order up spying directives against a vast number of people, including Americans" is backed up by facts and analysis. The problem, he says , is a bi-partisan one: 'The Democrats have shied away from another confrontation with Bush, leaving little doubt that last November’s election has done little to change the underlying political dynamic of Washington.'

One wishes there was a way for average citizens to find out about this legislation without wading through partisan rants. Each successive rant makes the picture a little clearer.

The sad story of lack of courage to stand up for the constitution is suscinctly told. Not to be patriotic for fear of fascists calling them unpatriotic is a rather sick irony that the story tells well.

In my opinion, because of its importance, this is VERY good journalism. Bigger than terrorism is the importance of protecting the Constitution and Bill of Rights which has been so abused in recent years by the "expansion of presidential powers". Mr. Parry shows us admirably how weak and lacking in courage the Democratic Party really is. They do not have the backbone to challenge Mr. Bush and his violation of FISA. Eye opening and putting toothpicks under the eyelids to make sure they stay open...with all of the media at our fingertips we seem to be more disconnected than ever or is it just that we turn a blind eye.
