Washington Times - By Jeffery T. Kuhner - Mar. 15 (Opinion) - Beltway conservatives are turning against Rush Limbaugh. The most recent assassin is David Frum. The former Bush speechwriter and fellow at the American Enterprise Institute wrote an article, "Why Rush is wrong," in the March 16 edition of Newsweek, attacking the popular talk radio host. Mr. Frum argues that Mr. Limbaugh should not be the "public face" of the conservative movement. Mr. Frum says Mr. Limbaugh is caught in a time warp, championing small government and tax cuts when economic realities have changed. Mr. Frum criticizes Mr. Limbaugh's Feb. 28 speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Mr. Frum also excoriates Mr. Limbaugh for saying he hopes President Obama fails. This supposedly puts conservatives on the defensive, making us look mean, petty and unsympathetic to the suffering of Americans during the financial crisis.

Washington Times - By Jon Ward - Nov. 16 (News Report) - President-elect Barack Obama on Saturday morning said that Valerie Jarrett, a longtime family friend and close counselor with a long history in Chicago politics, will serve as a senior White House adviser. The Obama transition team also announced the choice of two other individuals for key positions. Phil Schiliro, a longtime congressional investigator for Rep. Henry A. Waxman, California Democrat, will serve in the Obama administration as the head of the White House legislative affairs office. And Ron Klain, who has been at the center of battles over the Supreme Court for the past 20 years and served as chief of staff to Vice President Al Gore in the Clinton White House, will fill the same position for Vice President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.

Carter - Oct. 22 (News Report) - Government claims that a Mexican businessman infected with a highly contagious form of tuberculosis posed no serious public health risk by taking numerous domestic flights are based on faulty research and limited data, said a top Harvard physician who specializes in disaster medicine and infectious disease. "This policy is ill-founded, poorly researched, and puts the population at risk," said Dr. Greg Ciottone, one of the world's leading authorities on disaster medicine, including terrorist attacks and the threat of biological warfare. World Health Organization tuberculosis guidelines, adopted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only require airplane passengers to be notified of exposure to tuberculosis if the flight lasts more than eight hours. That's partly because their mortgage rates and terms are set by global investors in London, rather than in the United States. ... Three-quarters of the ARMs taken out by buyers with shaky credit standings and about a quarter of the hybrid ARMs taken out by those with good credit ratings are tied to the London Interbank Offered Rate, or LIBOR, which is set by global banks in London. In addition, global investors who had been buying riskier loans are now spurning them. That is a dramatic change from only a few years ago, when most ARMs in the U.S. were tied to the prime rate set by American banks or rates on Treasury bills largely controlled by the Fed.

"Since drug traffickers and terrorists operate in a clandestine environment, both groups utilize similar methodologies to function ... all lend themselves to facilitation and are among the essential elements that may contribute to the successful conclusion of a catastrophic event by terrorists," said the confidential report, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times. The 2005 report outlines an ongoing scheme in which multiple Middle Eastern drug-trafficking and terrorist cells operating in the U.S. fund terror networks overseas, aided by established Mexican cartels with highly sophisticated trafficking routes. These terrorist groups, or sleeper cells, include people who speak Arabic, Spanish and Hebrew and, for the most part, arouse no suspicion in their communities.
