The Hindu is a leading English-language newspaper in India, with its largest base of circulation in south India. It is over 125 years old. Founded in 1878 by Subramanya Aiyer, it was later headed by a co-founder, Veeraraghavachariar. Kasturi Iyengar, the legal adviser of the newspaper from 1895, bought it in 1905. Since then his family has retained ownership of the paper. The two basic priciples on which the founders flagged the newspaper were fairness and justice.
