The Real News - By Robert Pollin - Aug. 31 (Special Report) - President Obama has re-nominated Ben Bernanke to sit as Chairman of the Federal Reserve for another four-year term. Most of the media has praised Bernanke for his handling of the current economic crisis, Obama himself suggests that Bernanke helped save the US from another Great Depression. Economist Robert Pollin points out that Bernanke, as the top bank regulator in the country, played a central role in the creation of the crisis. But more importantly, according to Pollin, is that we review the Fed as a whole, and not just the individual who heads it up.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.2 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

The leak of the Downing Street Minutes – written in July 2002 and disclosed three years later – was an “incredible” public service by a brave British truth-teller exposing how the Bush administration “fixed” the intelligence to justify invading Iraq, says former CIA analyst Ray McGovern.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.7 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Network - Does U.S. poll rule out fraud in Iran?

The Real News - Jun. 18 (News Analysis) - Western media, along with thousands of Iranians protesting around the world, have formed a rough consensus over the six days since Iran's Presidential Election that Ahmadinejad's victory was the result of widespread fraud. However, a recent Op-Ed in the Washington Post references a rare public opinion poll in suggesting that the election may indeed have been fair. While there is not enough information to determine whether or not the election was rigged, this poll certainly doesn't rule out the possibility. If only because the poll's authors concluded prior to the election that the very same data predicted a relatively close vote. Yet today, those same authors are claiming that their figures demonstrate the validity of Ahmadinejad's landslide victory.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.0 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Bruce Fein, who worked in Ronald Reagan’s adminstration, says the momentum toward Empire has accelerated over the past few decades as the United States established more and more overseas military bases and Americans were sold on the quixotic notion that they could shield themselves from risk.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.0 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

The Real News - By Pepe Escobar - Apr. 30 (Opinion) - It may be impossible to judge the 1461 days of a US Presidency based only on the first 100. Pepe Escobar argues at least a pattern may be discerned. President Obama remains hugely popular - but the man, cool, calm and collected, may be more exciting than his policies. Ever the consensus builder, the pragmatist President will need to take more risks if he wants to accomplish real change, as well as being regarded by the majority of the population as The Fixer. So far, on the financial crisis and on the torture controversy - two key themes of his first 100 days - he was not as daring as he was expected to be.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.1 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

The Real News - By Jonathan S. Landay - Apr. 07 (Interview) - Jonathan S. Landay has been reporting on Afghanistan for 23 years. Now that the U.S. Administration plans a new surge into the country, Landay says that in Afghanistan, "there's a great deal of apprehension." Landay says he believes that, "most Afghans don't want the Taliban back, at least not the way they ran the country in the 1990s. And yet, because of the fact that these last eight years have been squandered by the previous administration, and because of its misguided policies towards Pakistan, and because of Pakistan's policies, people are very much sitting on the fence in Afghanistan. He says this is, "because they're not convinced anymore that the United States is there to "rebuild" their country, they are convinced that the U.S. is there to occupy their country as part of a war against Islam."
NewsTrust Rating: 4.0 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer
