Napoleon, Obama, and Health Care ‘Reform’

Pajamas Media - By George Leef - Sep. 04 (Opinion) - ObamaCare is an attempt to provide expansive health care benefits for millions of people who previously made do with much less, while simultaneously bringing down total health care spending. That will inevitably lead to the kinds of denial of treatment decisions and rationing by waiting list that are found in Britain and other countries with heavily politicized systems. Americans won’t react with indifference when grandma can’t get a hip replacement because some federal panel has decreed that it wouldn’t be cost-effective. Never before has a government program here created large numbers of people who will see themselves as terribly victimized by it.
NewsTrust Rating: Not rated yet - See Info » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

What fool will now apply for the dirty, dangerous, necessary job of interrogating madmen bent on the slaughter of Americans? Few, if any. The Obama administration has made one of two calculations:
NewsTrust Rating: 1.3 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

If Islamabad isn’t fully onboard the effort then the consultation could turn into an advance warning system for the Taliban and al-Qaeda, thereby endangering any assets subsequently tasked with carrying the strike out.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.2 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Save the newspapers

Pajamas Media - Mar. 17 (Opinion) - There is no logical reason why only the networks and the newspapers can be real newsgatherers. Among trade publications (and this happens with financial newsletters) people are willing to pay for information that isn’t put in the public domain in real time. If there’s a demand, you can charge for it. It may be argued that the real barriers to generating original news on the Internet are architectural: that we haven’t created the framework to gather, assess and remunerate original information gathering over the network. But in time, there’s no reason why a distributed network of journalists, using laptops or cell phones can’t provide a stream of facts that can be editorially processed in some way. No technical reason why, anyway.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.8 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

And now on the eve of the election, I confess I have no idea about who he is or what he stands for.
Pajamas Media - By Ruben Navarette Jr. - Oct. 19 (Opinion) - I realize it’s all about winning at this point. But someone has to ask: What has happened to the Democratic Party?

It seems like just yesterday that the party of Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy was talking about income equality and civil rights and worker protections and going to bat for the little guy, the blue collar laborer, the everyday Joe the Plumber.

Now, the well-to-do elites who run the Democratic Party — and their surrogates — greet these people with brickbats. They insult them, talk down to them, and even try to destroy them. Isn’t that the sort of war on the working class that Democrats are always accusing those greedy and heartless Republicans of waging?
NewsTrust Rating: 3.9 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

The Techo-Unsavvy Candidates

Pajamas Media - By Michael Malone - Oct. 10 (News Analysis) - Government is best at large-scale basic research - especially when it funds it from private enterprise - and, sometimes, at kick-starting a new commercial industry. But after that, it is usually just an impediment at best and a crusher of innovation at worst. Thus, to use the example of the computer, or even the Internet, as a justification for greater government interference in the marketplace is not only wrong, but dangerous as well.

Meanwhile, once again we have two Presidential candidates (the only exception I can think of in the last forty years was Al Gore) who don’t seem to have a clue about any of this. Given that one of them is going to be establishing this country’s economic priorities for the next four years, shouldn’t they learn - and quickly?
NewsTrust Rating: 4.5 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

UPDATE: Obama goes after Palin on bridge.

ANOTHER UPDATE: More here. "Until John McCain selected her as his running mate, it never occurred to anyone to deny that Palin stopped the bridge."

Pajamas Media - By Rinat Malkes - Aug. 04 (News Analysis) - It was a bloody weekend of confrontation between Hamas and Fatah, in which 11 people were killed and more than 90 -- including 12 children -- were wounded in the Shujaiyyah neighbourhood, east of Gaza City, bringing back the scenes of horror thousands of Gazans are already used to experience.
Hollywood Loses the War in Iraq

Pajamas Media - By John Nolte - Jul. 20 (News Analysis) - In March of 2008, Stop-Loss was about to open, but the Washington Post had already its obituary written:

After five years of conflict in Iraq, Hollywood seems to have learned a sobering lesson: The only things less popular than the war itself are dramatic films and television shows about the conflict.

A spate of Iraq-themed movies and TV shows haven't just failed at the box office. They've usually failed spectacularly, despite big stars, big budgets and serious intentions.

The underwhelming reception from the public raises a question: Are audiences turned off by the war, or are they simply voting against the way filmmakers have depicted it?

The Post, as you can see, followed the studio narrative in lamenting the box office failure of "Iraq-themed" films, as opposed to what they really are: pro-defeat films that in some cases are outright anti-American and too often defame the troops.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.9 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Most conservatives are in shock. "How could this happen?" is the question of the hour. The funny thing is, there are thousands of answers to that question depending on who or what you want to blame. But the bottom line is that McCain -left for dead 6 months ago - battled back by the sheer force of his own indomitable will and picked himself off the floor to get himself back into the race and back on top.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.6 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Some have touted it as bringing greater ethnic diversity to the early stages of the election process. On the other hand, the cost of a California campaign ain't cheap, another reason why candidates are so into taking the money and running.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.3 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Romney has spoken at events across the state and reminds people of his roots there: his first date was on Mackinaw Island, his first house in the Detroit suburbs, and so on. In nearly every part of the state, Romney can and does point to some milestone in his life that occurred nearby. It makes him the local boy, the favorite son.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.4 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

The 11-year-old Australian Liberal-National Party government led by Prime Minister John Howard - George Bush's 'man of steel' - was on Saturday, 24 November (Australian time) comprehensively voted out of office.

The national swing of over 5% in yesterday's vote has brought a young, bright and energetic Queenslander named Kevin Rudd to the job of Prime Minister of Australia, with a comfortable majority for his Labor Party of about 25 seats in the 150-seat federal house of representatives.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.7 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer
