A Moment of Opportunity for the New Media

Pajamas Media - By Michael Yon - Oct. 31 (Opinion) - The mainstream media, especially newspapers, have been declining solidly in readership and revenues for a quarter of a century. The industry is withering or, perhaps more appropriated viewed, it’s morphing. News is still in demand; but relative monopolies have been shattered and the power of the elites to set the topics and tones of discussions is ever more diluted. The rise of the internet has so changed the nature of news delivery that most of the big papers are shriveling.

Big Media has already partially forfeited the status it once held. As it continues its decline there will be some truly negative ramifications for all of us who value knowing what’s going on in remote places where American interests and lives are on the line. Serious, ongoing coverage of complicated situations like those in Iraq and Afghanistan is something that requires the resources and first-rate personnel that only well-financed, established institutions like the New York Times can provide.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.5 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

This Is the Khalidi Obama Embraced

Pajamas Media - By Jennifer Rubin - Oct. 31 (News Analysis) - Many others have surmised that the Los Angeles Times is running interference for Barack Obama, declining not just to provide the tape of the Rashid Khalidi goodbye event which Obama attended in 2003, but a complete transcript. It is reasonable to ask what could have been so bad about the event. What could possibly have been so objectionable about the speeches or proceedings that might concern voters at this late date?

Well, the original Times report gives us only the sketchiest account. But now we have a video of a complete Khalidi lecture from June 2007. It is quite an eye-opener.

Viewers curious about the views of the man whom in 2003 Obama gave a “warm embrace” (physically or verbally?) should skip to the fifty-minute mark on the video tape. You see, Khalidi tells us, the U.S. is repeating the same error of the Cold War in pursuing its war against Islamic terrorists. According to Khalidi it is the same “blind, foolish, reductionism.” And the U.S. policy is designed according to Khalidi to “get Palestinians to destroy one another.” And on it goes.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.9 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Editing Their Way to Oblivion: Journalism Sacrificed For Power and Pensions

Pajamas Media - By Michael S. Malone - Oct. 24 (Opinion) - The traditional media is playing a very, very dangerous game. With its readers, with the Constitution, and with its own fate.

The sheer bias in the print and television coverage of this election campaign is not just bewildering, but appalling. And over the last few months I’ve found myself slowly moving from shaking my head at the obvious one-sided reporting, to actually shouting at the screen of my television and my laptop computer.

But worst of all, for the last couple weeks, I’ve begun — for the first time in my adult life — to be embarrassed to admit what I do for a living. A few days ago, when asked by a new acquaintance what I did for a living, I replied that I was “a writer”, because I couldn’t bring myself to admit to a stranger that I’m a journalist.
NewsTrust Rating: 1.7 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Pajamas Media - By Mike McNally - Oct. 09 (Opinion) - While America’s mainstream media has spent the last few weeks obsessing about the imagined book-banning proclivities of Sarah Palin, news of a very real threat to Western values of tolerance and freedom of expression has gone largely unremarked upon by those same commentators.

In London three men have been charged over a firebomb attack on the home of Dutch publisher Martin Rynja, who owns the UK rights to The Jewel of Medina, a historical novel by the American author Sherry Jones which tells the story of the relationship between Mohammed and his child bride Aisha. The novel is being likened to Salman Rushdie’s The Satanic Verses in terms of its potential for inciting anger amongst Muslims. And sure enough, London’s resident mob of radical clerics has defended the attack on Rynja’s home and warned of more trouble to come.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.4 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Pajamas Media - By Jennifer Rubin - Oct. 06 (Opinion) - The irony is that the MSM, precisely as they had done at the GOP Convention, helped deliver a huge audience (nearly 70 million viewers) and a moral victory to Palin. Had they not savaged her and ridiculed her for weeks — just as they did after her selection as VP was announced — she would not have appeared so stunningly different and better than the image many voters had of her going into the debate. If the MSM did not exist, Palin would have to invent them. They are the perfect foil and they never disappoint.

As one network exec confided to me about the penchant for underestimating a politician like Palin who repeatedly has won elections, “We can be such idiots in the media.” Who could quibble with that?
NewsTrust Rating: 2.9 average - 4 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

British Media Snobs Look Down Their Noses at Palin

Pajamas Media - By Andrew Ian Dodge - Oct. 05 (News Analysis) - Overall, the vast majority of media coverage in the UK of Sarah Palin has been neutral sneering to downright nasty. One thing that has become apparent, again, is the complete inability to grasp the realities of American politics in the British media. They don’t seem to understand that politics in the U.S. are nothing like that in the UK or the rest of Europe. Like it or loathe it, nevertheless it is still a fact.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.5 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Pajamas Media - By Charlie Martin - Oct. 02 (Special Report) - We depend on credit lines more than most people realize. Credit lines dry up: businesses that depend on them grind to a stop. That means: grocery stores start to empty — they depend on short-term credit to buy food for the shelves; paychecks bounce, or aren’t delivered at all — many companies, especially very big and very small ones, use short-term credit to pay payroll against receivables.
Obama vs. McCain: The Gloves Come Off

Pajamas Media - By Rick Moran - Jun. 04 (Opinion) - McCain will seek to define Obama as a man of pretty words but a frightening far left agenda. He will be helped in this by his surrogates constantly alluding to the radicals that dot Obama's past. Jeremiah Wright, Father Pfleger, William Ayers and others will become very familiar to Americans before election day. Whether these problematic associations will drag Obama down to defeat will depend on how well the candidate can close the obvious gap between what his radical friends say about America and his own soothing "post partisan" rhetoric.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.9 average - 6 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Iran or Saudi Arabia: Pick Your Poison

Pajamas Media - By Youssef M. Ibrahim - Feb. 06 (Opinion) - Iran's Islamic fundamentalism is eminently negotiable. It rests on 5,000 years of civilization, which broadens its parameters. It is layered on top of Persian empires, a wealth of culture, literature, poetry, art, and a vastly sophisticated population, where women work and drive.

Tehran is clearly pleased that Iraq's 15 million Shiites dominate their government and that Lebanon's one million Shiites and their Hezbollah militia have proven themselves. It celebrates Shiites in Bahrain and several million more in pockets from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, along with wealthy merchant communities all over the Persian Gulf region. But it is not intoxicated by it and considers them tools of the trade. You can dialog with that.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.6 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Currently on a tour of the Middle East, President Nicolas Sarkozy has signed a deal with the United Arab Emirates to establish the first French military base in the region - indeed, the only foreign military base in Arabia that does not belong to the US.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.4 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Firearms in this class are also among the most useful for personal protection, and are taught as such in top shooting schools. These firearms are also used to hunt a variety of game animals, small and large, across the country. I don't believe in parsing off-hand comments for deep meaning. I found neither of the quotes cited above outrageous. I understand fully what Hillary Clinton, and her husband before her, is all about. Neither of them have sympathy for my concerns nor plans to help me with them. Of course we're not much use to Hillary either. She knows I won't be funneling any money to her politically if I can't even afford a funnel yet. My wife is less than useless to her, not even supplying her with political furniture to re-arrange.
NewsTrust Rating: 1.5 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Below is our interview:
NewsTrust Rating: 1.6 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer
