National Review - By Stephen Spruiell - Nov. 20 (News Analysis) - Medical-malpractice lawsuits drive up the cost of health care. The first episode began by defining the problem: The average cost of a health-insurance policy for a family of four doubled between 2000 and 2007, host Ira Glass said, and it is projected to double again in the next seven years. Health-care costs are spiraling out of control, eating into the wages of those who have insurance and making it harder for the uninsured to buy it. Why? The answer is complex, but one of the problems the NPR team identified is that doctors practice what’s known as defensive medicine. That is to say, they order tests and perform procedures that their patients might not need, out of fear that otherwise they might get sued.

The Obamas will send their two daughters to the expensive private school Sidwell Friends. Yes, that makes him something of a hypocrite because he is a vocal opponent of giving poor kids anything like the same option.

Kurtz had been researching Obama's relationship with unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers in Chicago Annenberg Challenge papers in the Richard J. Daley Library in Chicago — papers that were closed off to him for some days, apparently at the behest of Obama supporters.

National Review - By Jim Geraghty - Jun. 09 (News Report) - Mozloom predicted what we all expect - that because of his stance on the Iraq war, Obama and his allies wil attempt to cast McCain as a warmonger, while their man will end Iraq and attempt to bring peace -- the newspapers in San Francisco are assuring us he's a "Lightworker," after all, "who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet." Mozloom called the "I hate war" statement a "pivot" line, and noted that without beating you over the head, the ad made clear that McCain brings firsthand experience and knowledge to the table that Obama simply can't match. (I would ad that this makes the warmonger charge look silly, as the experiences of McCain make clear that no one in their right mind could suggest that he is insensitive to the high costs of war.)

Finances: In the past 60 days, the McCain campaign's finances have improved dramatically - Davis describes it from "being even" to "a place where we have a significant cash bank account... Going from zero to $30 million is pretty significant. We've expanded our capability to fundraise, and not spend too much over past 60 days. We chose to consolidate." "It's a much more egalitarian environment, moneywise, than anyone's willing to report," Davis said. He explained a chart that showed John McCain's campaign and the RNC having a combined $85.1 million ( 53.6 for the RNC, $31.5 million for McCain and their "what we believe, pretty confident" estimates of their counterparts - $46.5 million cash on hand for Obama, $4.4 million for the DNC "We're at least $35 million ahead of them in terms of cash on hand," he concluded.

But you'd be opening yourself up to yet another round of multibillion-dollar class-action suits. You'd have no choice but to say, "Mr. President, sorry, but you need a court order." And, indeed, if Democrats continue their recklessness, someone is eventually going to say, "Y'know, we can't even trust your court orders -- how do we know you're not going to let someone sue us for complying with them?

Reaction to the post ran the gamut: from those who incredulously objected to "tell[ing] Democratic voters in Michigan to keep the candidacy of a photogenic white guy with lots of money (and the ability to tap corporate interests for more) alive," to those who felt other GOP candidates were more deserving of their faux support, to those who objected on principle to interfering with the other party's primary. More than a few thread respondents recognized that the plan would more or less hand the primary to Hillary. Strikingly rare were any self-identified Michiganders pledging to follow the Kos plan.

At the end of the session the EMI bosses thanked them for their comments and told them to help themselves to a big pile of CDs sitting on a table. But none of the teens took any of the CDs, even though they were free." "That was the moment we realized the game was completely up," an EMI exec told the magazine. In the United States, album sales in 2007 were down 19 percent from 2006. Don't blame me. I still buy plenty of CDs. But that's because I like Doris Day, and every time I try to insert one of these newfangled MP3s into my fax machine it doesn't seem to play. But if you're not Mister Squaresville, and you dig whatever caterwauling beat combo those London hep cats are digging on their iPods, chances are you find the local record store about as groovy as the Elks Lodge.
