Kansas City Star - By Joyce Smith - Jun. 14 (News Report) - Restaurants across the land, feeding a trend begun several years ago with the introduction of Hardee’s Thickburger, are offering ever-larger burgers, sandwiches and rich dishes.

In this economy, restaurateurs say, they want to give more value for the money. And stressed consumers seem to have a taste for such comfort food. For some diners, words like low fat, diet, organic or healthy are just not on the menu.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.7 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Kansas City Star - Jun. 13 (News Report) - The full impact of environmental degradation is beginning to be felt in Kenya as water and other natural resources diminish. Nairobi and all other urban centers are perennially short of water these days because of the depletion at the source. And the situation threatens to get worse unless drastic action is taken to reverse the trend.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.9 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Kansas City Star - By Yael T. Abouhalkah - May. 26 (Opinion) - Sonia Sotomayor appears to be a perfect pick for the U.S. Supreme Court.

She's a woman. She's Hispanic. And she's liberal (but not too much).
NewsTrust Rating: 3.1 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Kansas City Star - By Steve Kraske - Oct. 19 (News Report) - “It comes down to values — in America, do we simply value wealth, or do we value the work that creates it?” Obama said in Kansas City.

“That’s right, Missouri — John McCain is so out of touch with the struggles you are facing that he must be the first politician in history to call a tax cut for working people ‘welfare.’ ”

Actually, McCain all but called it socialism in a radio address earlier Saturday.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.1 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Voters want solutions as health insurance costs rise sharply

Kansas City Star - By Suzanne King - Oct. 12 (Special Report) - Working two jobs isn’t exactly the way Dave Coffman envisioned his retirement.

But that’s how it’s turning out.

“I’m working basically because of health care,” said Coffman, 62, a retired school principal who lives with his wife in Lee’s Summit.

Until they qualify for Medicare, they have to buy private coverage. For now, their insurance bills amount to around $1,000 a month — including long-term care insurance, dental insurance and a health plan that has a $2,500 deductible. If he weren’t working two part-time jobs, Coffman said, there would be no way he could afford it.

“I never once thought about health insurance before I retired,” Coffman said.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.7 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Or worse.

Kokesh said he wanted to continue to argue the case for other servicemen and women; that way, he said, "the next Marine who faces harassment and intimidation will have something to stand on."
NewsTrust Rating: 3.7 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer
