I am an award-winning journalist, former publisher of Take Five Magazine and former metro columnist with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. After leaving the Post in 2009, I began working as a researcher, consultant and contributor with SmileyBooks. In 2011, I established When we Dream Together, a nonprofit aimed at revitalizing long-ignored urban areas. I write on topics of politics, race military spending, peace and urban revitalization

It's good journalism because it takes on a less-talked about subject and confronts a reality of our modern times. It effectively explains why we elect politicians who lie to us and let us down. In this hurly-burly, new-in-60 seconds-or-less society, Americans simply don't have time for facts.

Yes. It underscores the dangerous direction the country is headed toward that the Supreme Court validated with its backwards Citizen United Ruling. When the rich and conservative can buy elections and now control independent think tanks, true democracy is at stake. I completely agree with the chairman of the Cato board's comment: "This is an effort by the Kochs to turn the Cato Institute into some sort of auxiliary for the G.O.P."
