A well-reported story that takes on one community of immigrants to study the impact of the economic downturn on them and by extension their homeland
Decently written story about how immigration is still a major issue among many voters though the candidates are not talking about it. Some more background on immigrants in Utah would have made a fuller story.
This is an example of a project that allows targets of immigration raids to be able to continue to tell their own stories even after the reporters have left.
It was based totally on the report and didnt talk to any of the workers. felt a bit cobbled together and it took a long time to get to the actual abuses which when documented felt a little minor e.g the job they do often is different than the one advertised for. In a fast moving technical industry that's often not unusual - what you study in school might be somewhat out of date when you enter the industry. you are really being hired for your ability to adapt.
It's a good piece though the angle of farmers hurting for lack of farmworkers is not that new. the Border Patrol strategy is interesting especially in states far from the border.

This profile of a pastor in Laurel, Mississippi highlights the growing role of the church in the immigrant rights struggle.
The farmers complaining that immigration crackdown is affecting availability of farm labor is not new. And the story drifts off a bit into border patrol's checkpoint strategy.
It's an interesting glimpse into how difficult it is to keep track of immigration proceedings since there is no right to legal counsel. But doesn't really talk about what measures like Operation Streamline have done to immigration processing, case loads, how few ACLU like organizations there are and what they are really able to.

The immigration coverage in the US focuses a lot on the Southern border. This is a valuable glimpse in what happens to people from Central and Latin America (in this case Honduras) trying to cross through Mexico to the US.

It's a short piece, raises an important point but surely on this issue one could get a quote from someone other than an "decline to be identified" Republican.
It's a good round-up story, summarizes the candidates' stance and prior statements. It would have been more interesting if Obama and McCain spokespersons could have gone on record about this.
It puts the story of immigration here in more of a global context by comparing the situation in South Africa. It takes awhile to get to the parallels and at the beginning it seems to be unsure about whether its a reporting piece, an opinion piece or news analysis.
