Facebook has been the subject of scrutiny regarding privacy. Yet, compared to the web entities profiles in this article Facebook is a model of transparency. One may be very willing to have information about their web and shopping habits made known to the world. But it does need to be a conscious decision. The business methods described here are secretive and invasive. The public needs to be aware of the practices. The article is a good introduction.
Proposed laws in the deep south would make it illegal for underwear to be visible. The author uses this as a starting point for reviewing social dress codes through recent history.
This story gives an example of how the State Department is operating under the current administration. It illustrates how the musician, her Member of Parliament representatives, two US Senators have all been stonewalled by the State Department.
The story is published by an independent journalist reporting first person from Iraq. He embedded himself with US troops and spent serious time in Anbar. Plenty of photos accompany the text. His reporting is certainly at odds with what we see else where, or at least with the overall Iraq picture.
Short on facts, long on speculation this story takes flight from Greenspan's comment that "everyone knows" the war in Iraq is for oil. The piece would be a fine editorial. As a news story I ask for more substance.
The story is fact driven with no editorializing about the presented data. Historical comparisons are made, authorities are cited. Links to larger images allow one to drill down for more detailed viewing of the areas described by the story
As a follow up to the debate this article provides confirmation and repudiation of statements made by candidates. FactCheck.org is providing an important and needed public service to help the electorate stay informed.
The article describes a radically different way that T-Mobile is providing service, with a capital S, to their customers. It shows why this is unique and what the short and long term benefits to consumers are.
The story describes the case leading to a Supreme Court decision, Baird v. Eisenstadt, that affirmed the right for unmarried, ie all, Americans to purchase birth control. This case came after Baird's arrest for giving an unmarried 19 year old woman a condom and a package of contraceptive foam. While no where near as famous as Roe v. Wade this case arguably has affected more people and had a more pervasive influence on American life.
