Rachel Maddow clearly has a point of view and she does not hide that. But her reports are meticulous in their accuracy. She is reporting on the Democratic Party's strategy - and internal conflicts - in moving forward with healthcare. The Democrats control the House, Senate, and Presidency so that is a newsworthy analysis. To "balance" this report with a Republican saying "no" would be irrelevant and not germane to the clear topic under discussion.

Randi reports the facts, but also makes no bones about the fact that this is an opinion piece with a distinct point of view. Having a point of view is not a problem in reporting newsworthy issues, as long as the opinion is based on true facts or a true representation of the fact. The problem is when an opinon commentator pretends to be reporting the straight news and is, in fact, making up facts in addition to taking a political viewpoint.
This article presents a realistic picture of the political situation in Gaza in a balanced way - surprising for a mainstream publication and much needed. It recognizes the power of Hamas in the region as the governing force, and doesn't fall into the trap of dismissing Hamas as a bunch of out of control terrorists.
Parry describes a pattern of behavior at the Washington Post and other so-called mainstream media, in which candidates and office holders who are not considered "Beltway insiders" are accused of being presumptuous and even delusionary - and in the case of Barack Obama, "uppity" - or else described in an unnecessarily demeaning way. These accusations are based on quotations taken out of context or even misquoted in order to make the intended point.
This article doesn't even rise to the level of journalism. Only two pro-impeachment speakers are quoted: a non-substantive comment from Congressman Wexler and a statement from Hank Johnson that is trivialized by Milbank. Mr. Milbank helpfully informs the reader that Congressman Kucinich is diminutive and has a much taller wife (that really moves the discourse forward). Nothing is said about the substance of Congressman Kucinich's resolution. Statements from Republicans ... More »
The article makes an essential point about how our democracy is being dismantled, brick by brick, and how that is far more dangerous than a cataclysmic takeover. The analogy to the substance of what happened in Germany is most apt. For an analogy to be true, it is not necessary that each event or each fact have an exact parallel,
The author brings his 27 years of experience as a CIA analyst to bear in a strongly worded - but fair and honest - discussion of the serial misuse of intelligence by this Administration.
This is classic good journalism - albeit on the "opinion" page. Paul Krugman is clear-eyed, fair but doesn't mince any words. I have found him 100% trustworthy in his writings - the slightly lowered "trust" rating I gave was for the NYT as a whole which, as a newspaper, has slid badly.
It is a sad state that writing an artilcle about a welll documented (but rarely reported) event is considered an act of courage. Kudos to Ray McGovern for keeping this story and the underlying issues it raises alive.
I am more appalled at the ratings this article is getting than by the article itself. "Well argued"? "Well-reasoned"? This is one of the most poorly written, speciously argued attempts at commentary I have seen. First- he characterizes those favoring impeachment as "left-leaning", but then proceeds to admit that some noted conservatives as well as half of the country, are already behind impeachment. Then, after taking pains to paint impeachment as a looney left wing - oh my God ... More »
Strong background information, detailed discussion. Very informative about an essential element of the supplemental appropriations package.
Finally - a clear, rationale discussion of AIPAC that clearly shows that criticizing the policies of the Israeli government is not criticism of Israel nor of Jewish people, and most definitely is not anti-Semitic. Article also makes clear the social context under which the most radical view takes the fore in any group.
This is the worst kind of reporting - report a "fact" - Al Gore has a big house and the media is reporting that he has a big house - then draw all sorts of bogus conclusions from those "facts". This is exactly what we should be fighting against. People who review articles should try to learn something about the subject beyond the four corners of the article they are reviewing!
Another "its about time" story - on a subject that has been too little discussed. Excellent background material and a sense of the many players in this potentially deadly saga.
A very biased and one sided report. Accepts as a given that the Palestinians are completely in the wrong and not to be dealt with fairly. Does not question why all the "conditions" are one-sided. Average for reporting on this subject, but reporting in this subject is notoriously bad.
