I attend Northeastern University where I am a junior journalism major with minors in history and international affairs. I hail from Western Mass and have been a Boston Globe reader since forever. I consider myself a feature writer, but am equally capable of covering hard news stories. I'm addicted to traveling and dream of becoming a foreign correspondent in Paris, where I spent my spring 2008 semester. I have worked in various media outlets in America and Europe, including the Northeastern/Huntington News, the Improper Bostonian, Going, Inc., the Planet (Paris) and Argument (Oslo). I look forward to working at the Boston Globe this spring.

This article was well-constructed with consistently strong sourcing. I was pleased to see quotes from executives of both major airlines and an effective comparison of their financial situations. I'm not sure it was necessary to discuss OpenSkies in the end there; it didn't really add anything to the story. I was also not impressed by the random typos throughout the piece.

This piece falls somewhere between news report and opinion piece, as the writer's agenda is evident through phrases like "the situation is so bad" and "it is thought." Granted, the bias is somewhat grounded because this is a clear environmental crisis, but also one that experts should be able to comment on. Where are the sources in this piece? There are statistic and organizations referenced to, but no direct quotes. Also, I'm willing to bet that breakfast isn't the only thing that ... More »

This story is short, but feels like it should be even shorter. Latter graphs are not transitioned, and earlier ones could be combined. I'm also wondering what oil prices were earlier this week, not in July. What did they fall from? If it was a big fall then, yes, this is totally worthy of a story. Or maybe it's just symbolic that the price is now less than $50. Maybe, maybe.

This is a very strong story, well-organized and thorough. The reporter spoke with a wide variety of sources, including one anonymous source. Why? I also bristle slightly at the sight of stacked quotes, but can accept this as a common practice. Overall, a very nice piece about an interesting trend.

There are a lot of weird things happening in this story. First of all, both Iceland and Turkey are mentioned in the headline. Iceland dominates the story, but there are virtually no quotes from an Icelandic official. By contrast, Turkey is hardly mentioned in the story, yet the prime minister is quoted. The way Turkey is use really breaks up the flow of the story, since we almost immediately return to Iceland. Also, the way the loan quantities are given was slightly confusing, ... More »

The story is well-written and presents the basic facts surrounding the situation. I'm just wondering about certain other viewpoints. It seems the reporter was at Daher, so why are there no quotes from the company? Without any opponents or other voices, it almost reads as a press release for Sarkozy's plan.
